If we want an ecosystem, a network, a space, where we could come together to make something meaningful, where would that be?
Most of us want to do something. Whole forums talk about what we want for a change, where we see opportunities. All big cathedrals, that can be never built by one person alone. Or a small team. If they do, they raise significant capital. What do you do without capital? You dream or you take action. Just start, grow and nurture. And to do just that, people need at least 5 things to thrive:
1) Meaning
2) Purpose
3) Health
4) Time
5) Money
Many times the founder story is bootstrapping, lonely and hard work. There are many founders doing a similar thing. Good things, that jibe with others. Couldn't we do this a bit together? In an icubator-lab? Where the platform creates the cheerleaders, supporters, the co-creators and wannabe customers?
People take it to the streets, outcry, massive uproar. We have seen the latest '99%, Arab Spring, Black Lives Matter etc. All routed in the desire to make a change. Better lives, better opportunities, better 5 to thrive. At Makea we love deep, meaningful conversations, down to the bitter truth. The naked, bare bones of absolute honesty. If we're going to tackle the beast, be the elephant in the room, then we do it boldly, even sometimes with fear. Courage and grit are great teachers – and insects, too :-).
Why can't we be like bees, ants, and termites? The ants create this massive coordinated workforce, doing stuff, even building their own rafts with live bodies. The termites construct their hills as strong as concrete, a truly phenomenal infrastructure that lasts. A safe space. But then the bees; they fertilize and create an end product; so delicious, that even humans like it and rely on it.
Imagine – Now we have a recipe. Come together, build something to completion. The whole process, everybody involved, into a great product. While we start bootstrapped with enthusiasm, we contribute each one a tiny bit of time, a task, a chat, money etc. to completion. When the honey is ready, up for sale, everyone receive a bit of juicy money. It doesn't grow on trees directly, but sometimes, honey is good enough to enjoy something tasteful.
